Research

My research agenda centers on gender inequality in higher education and cultural communities. Particularly, I examine how institutions and communities commit to ameliorating inequality through inclusive policies and practices, and how exclusion may still be reproduced for marginalized groups.

As such, I explore this through three current lines of research:

  1. Transgender inclusion in women’s and feminist spaces,
  2. Gender and craft beer, and
  3. Intersectional barriers in STEM career pathways.

My research is supported by both internal and external funding, including the Virginia Tech Graduate Research Development Program, National Science Foundation, and the National Academy of Education/Spencer Foundation Dissertation Fellowship.
